“TSUBAKI” is from the DNA series - it is a new series in which the artist attempts to redevelop her relationship with her origin as a Japanese descent. This is an attempt to redevelop her relationship with her heritage that she once felt estranged from, avoided, and felt embarrassed for in her adolescence.

“TSUBAKI” 2021 illustrates the daily lives of the maiki-san (the geisha apprentice). They all have shredded for the day, and have gotten ready for their first ozashiki of the night. Don’t forget to recharge with the spam musubi - the ultimate Hawaii energy bar!
